11. Method and apparatus for associative memory
- Right at the top, the patent says: "This invention was made with Government support provided by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), ARPA Order 6429, through Contract DAAH01-88-C-0887, issued by the U.S. Army Missile Command. The Government has certain rights in the invention." This proves DARPA and the Army paid for this work.
- It was filed in 1992 but didn't get approved until 1999 - a 7-year wait.
- This patent is about something different from the rest. It's a computer chip that helps a machine recognize patterns. It has nothing to do with the human body.
- The chip only needs about 5.5% of all possible connections to work almost perfectly. It was tested 26,973 times and only failed 3 times.
